'Aunty' Marian

Created by Vivien one year ago
From the daughters of Marian’s lifelong close friend Win Cheetham (née Peak):

Marian was one of our mum’s oldest and dearest friends. Mum died in 2002, but she and Marian were exactly the same age. They shared a girlhood in war and post-war Radcliffe, as Girl Guides, as members of the youth club, on cycling and youth hostelling holidays; and when Mum married our dad, John Cheetham, in 1948 Marian was of course a bridesmaid.

We knew her throughout our childhood as ‘Aunty’ Marian: a kind, generous and astute presence; and, as a successful professional woman, an important role-model for two girls growing up in the 50s and 60s.

Although our contact in later years was mainly through Christmas cards, occasional phone calls and visits, and updates from Dad who particularly valued her friendship and support after Mum’s death, she was always a much-loved presence in our lives and continued to impress us with her warmth, her lively mind and her sense of fun.
